Individual Art Psychotherapy
Sometimes life can feel difficult to make sense of. You might be feeling stuck, overwhelmed or unsure what comes next. You might be going through a difficult time, trying to understand yourself a little better, or simply feel that something isn't quite right.
Art can express what words can't. Art Psychotherapy offers a space to slow things down, make sense of what's happening and explore things at your own pace.
And no, you don't need to be good at art.
Honestly.
Maybe you haven't drawn, painted or made anything since you were a child. Maybe you think you're “not artistic”. That's okay. Art Psychotherapy isn't about creating something “good”. It's about having a way to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences that can sometimes be difficult to put into words. It's about being curious and giving yourself permission to make. We might draw, paint, scribble, collage, make things, play with materials or experiment with something completely new.
There is no right or wrong way to make art, and there is no expectation to produce something artistic. We work together to find a way of using the creative process that feels meaningful and appropriate for you.
My aim is to create a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where people have the freedom to explore what is going on for them at their own pace, without pressure or expectation. I offer 1:1 Art Psychotherapy in person in Glasgow with children, young people and adults, and online with young people and adults.
Starting therapy
Sometimes the easiest place to start is with a hello.
I offer a free 30-minute consultation by phone or online. It's a chance to talk about what's brought you to therapy, ask questions and get a feel for whether working together feels right.
You don't need to know exactly what you need before we talk. We can start there.
If you decide you'd like to begin therapy, we'll arrange an initial assessment lasting one hour, charged at the standard session rate. This gives us some time to talk in more depth about what you're looking for and think together about how we might work.
Sessions then take place at an agreed day and time, either weekly or fortnightly, either in person or online. I often suggest that we review our sessions after 6 sessions. This gives us an opportunity to think about how things are going, what you're finding helpful and whether you'd like to continue.
How sessions and fees work
Individual sessions can be weekly or fortnightly, lasting for 50 minutes and cost between £45 and £60 in person or online.
I'm very aware of the financial pressures many people are facing. If you're worried that you might not be able to afford therapy, please don't let that stop you getting in touch. When I can, I offer alternative payment arrangements and will always try to make therapy as accessible as possible
Payment
I ask for payment 48 hours in advance in order to secure your session. If you're having difficulties with payment or bank transfers, please let me know and we can talk it through.
Cancellations
Once we've agreed on a regular day and time, that space is reserved for you. I ask for 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or change a session. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice are normally charged at the full session rate.
If something unexpected happens, please get in touch. Extenuating circumstances can be discussed, and where possible we can look at changing the session time, although I can't always guarantee another time will be available.
