Hello and welcome,

I’m Kim.

It’s only fair you get to know a bit about me.

First things first…

I LOVE pens, pompoms and paperplanes. I have lots of pens, from paint pens to biros to felt tip pens, I also love making paper planes and pom poms…because I think I am at my happiest when I am creative.

I've always been a scribbler, a daydreamer and a helper, and I think I'm probably at my happiest when I'm being creative.

I grew up loving art, which led me to Edinburgh College of Art, where I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Applied Arts. Wanting to bring together my love of creativity and helping people, I went on to study Art Psychotherapy at Queen Margaret University, graduating with an MSc in Art Psychotherapy.

So here we are. I'm an integrative Art Psychotherapist, supervisor and creative practitioner with a private practice in Glasgow and online.

What I bring to the room

Over the past 12 years I've worked with children, young people and adults across schools, community settings, healthcare and charities throughout Scotland. I have strong working knowledge of child and adolescent development, child protection and safeguarding, safe creative therapeutic environments, and social justice.

Alongside my therapeutic work, I've developed experience in community practice, creative facilitation and consultancy, always with a focus on creating thoughtful, inclusive spaces where people can feel heard.

I understand that sometimes life asks more of us than we expected. Sometimes we find ourselves navigating circumstances we never imagined, while still trying to keep everything else going. I've come to appreciate how important it can be to have a space where you don't have to be the one holding everything together.

A space to pause, make sense of things and think about what you need too. That's something I try to bring into my work - creating a space where there is room to slow down, explore what's going on and find a way forward that feels right for you.

How I work

My aim is to create safe, confidential and non-judgemental spaces where people have the freedom to explore what is going on for them, at their own pace and without pressure or expectation.

Through art and the therapeutic relationship, I support people to make sense of their experiences, explore difficult emotions and develop a greater understanding of themselves.

I work integratively drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches and adapting my practice to the individual needs of each person I work with. Psychodynamic and attachment-based thinking sit at the heart of my work. I'm interested in the relationships we build, the stories we carry and the ways our experiences shape how we see ourselves and others.

I believe therapy should be collaborative. I don't see creativity as something that needs to be taught or perfected, but as a way of exploring, communicating and making meaning. My role is to create a space where people can feel comfortable and safe enough to be curious, experiment and find their own ways of expressing what matters to them.

Beyond the therapy room

Supporting people and communities has always been an important part of my life and work. I am a co-founder of the Glasgow Initiative of Facilitation & Therapy (GIFT), a community therapeutic arts organisation, and have several years' experience working within community settings.

My practice has developed into creative consultancy, supporting work that advocates for children, young people and communities. This experience continues to shape the way I work, recognising the importance of creativity, inclusion and social context in supporting emotional wellbeing. Over time, this has grown into working with people in different ways - from individual Art Psychotherapy, to clinical supervision and mentoring for practitioners, to creative consultancy, training and workshops for organisations, groups and teams.

Whether I'm working with an individual, a practitioner or a whole team, the intention remains much the same: to create space to pause, explore what's going on, think differently and work out what might come next.

Professional Practice

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a full member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). I am a PVG Scheme member and hold Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance. I practise in accordance with the professional standards, practice guidance and ethical principles of the professional bodies to which I belong.

I attend regular clinical supervision, using this space to reflect critically on my practice, interventions, assumptions and emotional responses. I also undertake continuing professional development to ensure that my knowledge and practice remain current. In short I make sure I am providing the right service whenever we work together and am committed to working inclusively with individuals of different cultures, genders, sexual orientation and age.
